If you’re a skinny hardgainer trying to do everything possible to gain weight and build muscle mass you may be doing something that can be completly slowing down any of your bulking gains.  This is drinking or using bodybuilding supplements that contain stimulants.  Although things such as caffeine are excellent ergogenic aids for exercise performance and metabolism boosting, it also can negatively affect the naturally skinny weight trainer.

Caffeine raises a catabolic (muscle wasting) hormone called cortisol.  The higher and the longer the amount of cortisol is found in the body the more muscle loss that can occur…which is obviously something you are trying to avoid at all costs.  So, not that you have to avoid them completely, just watch out for them.  Drinks such as coffee, regular tea, and regular sodas all contain caffeine.  So, use with caution.
